Note that a widow with children or grandchildren, should be cared for by her family. LetвЂ™s look again at verse 4, to see a case where a widow would not qualify as being in need.

So giving gifts to the poor, or providing for their maintenance, is doing them honour and that this is the sense here, appears by what follows in the context.вЂќ вЂњвЂ¦honour, here, is what is to be given to all that are really widows and therefore rather regards some external honour and respect to be shown them, by words and actions and especially it designs an honourable provision for them, and maintenance of them вЂ¦ He qualifies the widows that are to be supported by saying that honor is to be given to those who are really in need. Would you like forgiveness and bounty from Allah subhanahuwata`ala? вЂњWhoever removes a worldly grief from a believer, Allah will remove from him one of the griefs of the Day of JudgmentвЂќ Would you like Allah Subhanahuwata`alaa to remove one of your griefs on the Day of Judgment? This will soften your heart, and enable you to get what you need.вЂќ The Messenger of Allah said, what translated means, вЂњWould you like that your heart becomes soft and that you acquire what you need? Be merciful with the orphan, pat his head and feed him from what you eat. В“ A man once came to the Messenger of Allah, sallAllahu`alaihiwasallam, and complained that he feels hardness in his heart. Would you like your heart to soften and Allah subhaanahuwata`aalaa to answer your prayers? В“ вЂњOne who cares for widows and the poor is like those who fight in the way of Allah or those who spend their days fasting and their nights praying.вЂќ Would you like to be like a Mujaahid or like those who spend their days fasting and their nights praying? When a little girl cries halfway around the world, are her tears any less real?
